Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions?  A few frequently asked questions on the artist and mixed media art.

What is Mixed Media Art?

Mixed media art is the layering of different materials-- paint, paper, found objects, ink, thread, or fabric -- into one cohesive piece.  I see it as a way to give form to what's intuitive, emotional, or spiritual.  It lets me move freely across boundaries of medium and meaning.

What materials do you use in your work?

Each piece is different, but I often work with acrylics, paper collage, watercolor, pencil, textiles, and sometimes thread or natural elements.  The materials themselves become part of the story -- textures from memory, colors from emotion.

Is mixed media considered fine art?

Yes.  Artists like Pablo Picasso and Robert Rauschenberg paved the way by incorporating unexpected materials into traditional forms.  Today, artists such as Lorna Simpson, Kiki Smith, and Shahzia Sikander continue to create deeply layered works using mixed media.  Their work, like mine, invites reflection, connection, and interpretation.

What inspires your art?

Seasons of life, spiritual longing, the wonder of childhood, and the quiet beauty of imperfection.  My haiku poetry often emerges from the same source as my art -- something sensed before it's fully understood.

Do you combine poetry with your visual art?

Yes.  I pair many of my paintings with original haiku or short verse.  The words and images speak together -- sometimes in harmony, sometimes in contrast.  The result, I hope, is an experience that lingers.

Can I purchase or commission your work?

Yes.  Originals and prints will be available through the shop page.  You can also contact me directly for commissions, inquiries or special collaborations.
