I still remember the first time I opened a fancy art magazine, seeing all the different images and techniques and reading the artist's stories behind them and wanting more. Then I collected many books on my favorite topic of mixed media, but really had not dived deeply into their stories. Recently, I did just that. Much I know from books, not just webinars. With these Art Book Reviews, I’m inviting you into that same workshop.
In each review, I slow down and ask: What is the author trying to achieve, and for whom—beginner, brave experimenter, or patient scholar? Do the steps, images, and materials hold up at the table? My notes favor clear evidence, thoughtful context, and fair judgment.
Because this site leans toward contemporary mixed media, many stops will be mixed media art books—layering, transfers, stitching—along with collage art book reviews that weigh both technique and meaning. I’ll trace influences, place each title in its genre, and consider whether it sparks sustained practice.
If you’re seeking inspiration for yourself, a how-to on a specific technique, or a wide view of a form, these Art Book Reviews are a map. Bring curiosity; I’ll bring lived experience, careful analysis, and accessible language. Together we’ll read, test, and discover our own journey in the process.
