Sharon is a mixed media collage artist. Her works are a combination of mediums, wet and dry, be it paint or paper, glue or ink. Imagination is the limit. Sharon came into this art form through the world of scrapbooking which has informed her style of mixed media collage art. It is her intent to provide knowledge about this type of art through her blog as well as sharing videos where you can watch her work. Be inspired to make your own. Also, there will be opportunities to enjoy Sharon's art in a few different ways through the website.
Sharon has a favorite saying..."The question is not what you look at, but what you see." This was said by Henry David Thoreau.
Sharon's work lends itself most often to the abstract. The world of mixed media collage and other forms of mixed media work very well in that manner, although it can be used to create more realistic artworks. Her artwork also draws from the spiritual and/or religious palette of life. As many artists that see personal messages in their art, realize that the same piece could say something entirely different to another, so does she.
There is a word among the French, echafadeur, which means to build up, layer on layer. This is mixed media art in its expression. One of her favorite mediums to work in is encaustic wax. Her favorite paintbrush has often been the embossing gun.
Often a late bloomer, long past high school and college, Sharon realized she was an artist. For a long time it was just a hobby without any real direction. One aspect of it that caused her to take it seriously was discovering it was one of her spiritual gifts. In the Christian faith is the teaching that every believer has at least one spiritual gift when he or she is born again. Sometimes those giftings show up in different times of our lives. For her that gift is Craftsmanship. You can read more about it in the book of Exodus in the story of Bezalel.
Sharon likes to record her dreams. It's another way she tries to discern the direction of her life. One night she had a dream in which she was told "You are a Creative." This was one of a few ways it was confirmation she had found her calling.
In addition to making visual art, Sharon likes to write poetry. In fact, she is working on her first poetry book she titles "Is Jesus Real Like Me? Reflections on Life's Seasons." You may find she uses the creative gift of writing poems along with a number of her artworks. Besides mixed media art and poetry, she likes to find time to work in her scrapbooks.
